History

History of Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief responses:

Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief was founded in 1978 when Tennessee Baptists responded to an explosion of a train tanker car in Waverly, TN. The immediate response included financial assistance and transportation of burn victims to doctors’ appointments. Since then, the ministry has grown and provided aid in many different forms to over 340 different disaster events.

We’ve responded within Tennessee, throughout the United States, and around the world. Some responses have been small, requiring only a small number of units and volunteers. Others have required thousands of volunteers and continued for many years. Many smaller responses are not listed as local units have responded to small events in their towns and counties.
