Important Florence Update

The Sullivan Baptist Association feeding unit, led by Jim Ramey, prepared about 6,000 meals Sept. 19 at First Baptist Church in Kinston, N.C. The meals were distributed by Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles to victims of Hurricane Florence.

DOM’s, Team Leaders and Secretaries,

I want to thank everyone for their patience as Florence came in and stayed longer than we would have liked her to.  It is hard to believe that well over a week after the storm made landfall, that the water in many areas is still rising and is predicted to do so for another day or two making some areas inaccessible.

Here are the current needs…

  1. Feeding team members.  We are planning on a third week of cooking in Kinston, NC.  This group will need to leave on this Saturday and return the following Saturday or Sunday.  If you have people trained on the feeding unit and would be interested in responding this coming week.  Please contact Jim Ramey at 423-579-2435 by Wednesday evening.
  2. We are needing more flood recovery units.  If you can put together a team, I need your team’s unit number or name, the dates you are wanting to go and the approximate number on the team.  (If you do not know your team’s unit  number, contact Elizabeth Holmes at eholmes@tnbaptist.org) Once I have that, I will get this information to the IC in NC and they will assign your team a location.  Teams may be made up of a combination of credentialed and non-credentialed personnel.  If you are taking non-credentialed personnel with you, I need them to fill out a Non-Credentialed Volunteer Application prior to going.  If you have questions on this process, please contact me and I will try and answer your questions.
  3. If you are a shower/laundry or just a laundry unit, please let me know your availability also.  They are looking down the road and wanting to open more recovery only sites and will need units for these locations.

Currently, we are not working just one area. Units will be assigned a location as their time gets close based on the greatest need.

Currently, they are not asking for chainsaw units.  This may change as they get into some of the areas that have not been entered yet.  I will put the word out as soon as I know something.  In the meantime, if you are a combination unit or would like to pair your personnel up with another flood recovery unit and learn, let me know and we will try and hook you up with another unit.

I am grateful for the teams that have welcomed those wanting to go but did not have a team to go with.  A good number of those who contacted me are having the opportunity to go.

Thank you for all that you do. Your patience, your love and your service stand as a positive testimony to the Love of Christ.

In Christ Serving Together,
Wes Jones
