Our Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief Volunteers continue to serve in the Houston area in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Please pray for the volunteers and the first groups come out and the next set of groups are heading down. Pray for their safety and quick arrival.
Reports that are coming from out of Texas are that our volunteers are doing a great job. On the other hand, our volunteers are singing the praises of the Texans who are hosting our volunteers as well the residents themselves. The community in that area is working hard with neighbor helping neighbor to clean out the damaged homes. We are grateful for cooperation we see on all sides.
We have had a request from Texas for a couple of chainsaw teams to come down and assist with downed trees. The do not believe a bucket truck will be needed. If you have a chainsaw team that would like to respond to Texas and help meet this need. Let Elizabeth or I know.
In regards to Irma, we are still on Standby. If you have been watching the news you have seen the devastation of this storm as it came across the Caribbean. It is taking its time and the track up Florida keeps changing. The news this morning shows it going up the west coast of Florida just off shore which may mean more damage along that track as it will not be slowed down. Besides that, it will also impact the panhandle of Florida.
My encouragement to you is to keep praying, and preparing so that when it finally has run its course, we are ready to respond. Pray that the storm will lose its punch quickly. Pray for the safety of those in its path. Pray for the safety of those who are ready to respond.
As the Hurricane runs its race, let us also run the race that is set before us. “Therefor, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1
Thank you for being ready to serve those who are affected by the disaster.
